aftercare 101

your tattoo is just like a cat – it needs its space but loves attention!

1-Second Skin

If the tattoo is covered with second skin, please remove this after 24-48 hours.

Please note there will always be some buildup liquid underneath the second skin,

this can be blood, wound fluid or ink. A little bit is completely fine, if it gets too messy, feel free to take it off. If anything feels weird (burning or itching), also take off the protection.

My advice is to remove the second skin under the shower. Peel off an edge and gently pull: let the water run through to dissolve the glue.

After removing the protection, wash the tattoo twice a day with mild soap (fragrance-free) and gently pat the area dry with a paper towel.

Please only use a clean paper towel and no towels or toilet paper. Don't forget, you are dealing with an actual wound that can get infected if you don't take care of it properly!

 2-Cream

Apply a thin layer of cream for 20 days. / recommendations: coconut oil (organic, cold pressed ones), Hustle Butter tattoo balm (5oz is more than enough!) and Atelier Eva soothing tattoo aftercare gel

Don't use anything that is not specifically made for tattoos, this can lead your tattoo to heal unevenly.

Less is more. Don't apply thick layers of cream. If the skin feels dry, put some extra cream on the spot to keep it moist. Only apply a very thin layer for the best healing condition.

So don’t let it get too dry and don’t leave it with cream all the time. You can use it several times a day.

3- Don’t during the healing process

  • Touch the tattoo as little as possible. Itching is part of the healing process.

  • Avoid covering the tattoo with tight clothes, or bandages, let your tattoo breathe in the open air as much as possible. Tight or abrasive clothing can irritate the tattoo.

  • Avoid swimming, baths, saunas, sunbeds, and direct sunlight for 4 weeks. After the healing process, when sunbathing always use the highest sunscreen factor!

  • Don’t take a shower in very hot water and don’t scrub it until it heals.

  • Don’t work out/exercise for the first 14 days. Intense physical activities and excessive sweating can disrupt the healing process and increase the risk of infection. If the tattoo feels sore after that time, please wait even longer. Please avoid any unnecessary friction with your fresh tattoo.

  • (including yoga or other soft exercises) Better if you wait until your tattoo is completely healed for hygiene reasons.

  • Don’t shave or wax the area until the tattoo is completely healed.

  • Don’t apply alcohol, Vaseline, petroleum jelly to a fresh tattoo.

  • If you have any pets, don’t let them get close to the tattooed area. (it may cause infection.)

 ATTENTION

Contact your doctor in case of extreme redness, swelling, bleeding, wound fluid, color change, or chronic pain. This can be signals of an allergic reaction.
